A successful experiment similar to 'six degrees of seperation' idea

Hey Stephen, I joined this group on facebook a couple of months ago called "Needle in a Haystack". The aim was to use social networking to locate the owner of a lost camera, that was found in Greek Isles, by an Australian. The group reached about 235,000, and 2 weeks later the owner in London was found. I thought you might find it interesting so here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=283773345087#/group.php?v=info&gid=283773345087

The social networking : Innovation in Socializing

Some people believed that the greatest way to stay connected with technology is to participate and I personally agree with that thought. It is difficult to “feel” about socializing through technology if we do not stepping to be a participant. The technology of social networking has been grown. Several of web application has been design to motivate people to “innovate” the way of socializing. In addition, I am now registered to be a participant and have been experienced some features of the several social networking site referred to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Delicious. Both of them have different content design and features to accommodate a different purpose. For example, if some people planning to find a lost friend or to make one Facebook is the absolute online place to go. Meanwhile, Flickr is an online photo sharing application which is the most suitable platform for people to get inspired , also for amateur and professional artist or photographer to share and promotes th...

Event title?

We're trying to come up with a super awesome name for our event, with some Web2.0 style dropped vowels. Does anyone have any input or suggestions? Update: Latest train of thought has us on "Oomph!"

Follow-up from today's meeting

A couple of things to follow-up  on from this morning: SMS gateway ITEE already has one that we could use. Peter Sutton set this up for student feedback purposes a few years ago, and currently uses it to send out mid-semester results, etc. for students who register with him. All SMS to the number is redirected to a web page, which has a PHP script to deal with the incoming messages. The address is fixed, but it would be possible to alter the PHP. There is also a PHP interface for sending outgoing messages from the system. Peter has no problem with us using this. Another location-based game The game/experience I mentioned is called Akoha . They have Play it Forward , what they call a  'social reality game', which uses cards to pass missions on from one player to another. The cards use QR codes to link back to the online representation of the game.

Scavenger Hunt Links

Hey all, Here are some scavenger hunt links... they vary in 'interestingness' and in age level - some are a bit 'young' but you could work with them to get something more appropriate. http://www.hud.gov/kids/scavhunt.html - this one is around getting kids to know more about their town/local area - it's pretty generic but some ideas could be adapted to UQ. Diva Girl Parties has a list of interesting ideas. The Around Town Hunt seems interesting - people have to take photos of particular things. With groups that have camera phones this could be a way of building an inter-group puzzle/image/thing. Each of the links here has suggestions on what could be used as clues. You could also grab some ideas from the Amazing Race - global scale but they do some interesting stuff that isn't just based around finding answers. These could be used as ways of getting teams to mingle with each other - and as ways of building the relationships within groups so that they interact m...

Reflection

Reflection: During this summer project, I have found the newly introduced “Design Framework”” to be an extremely unique and positive experience. Quite so in the early brainstorming and research stages of the assignment. It does bear a resemblance to the design process we are taught throughout the multimedia degree, however, I prefer the framework as it is straight forward, to the point and actually looked interesting which engaged me to utilise it, which led to me learning even more about the importance of planning and step by step production. Motivations was an interesting and extremely relevant point to start off with, I think this is what made my interest in the framework greater, rather than say the generic “why are we making this” which leads to a one line response which usually revolves around its assessment” or “I want a seven”. The motivations part of the framework really highlighted what our true intentions were, such as actually looking beyond the assessment and concentrating...
