Some notes from Interview 1 - Matt
A quick summary of some of my notes from the first meeting with Debbie, Melanie and Maggie:
Scheduling:
The school has a compulsary session for the students at 3pm on Wednesday which involves a series of talks followed by a BBQ.
Talks:
Welcome from head of schools
Program directors with essential information
Kathy
Industry person
Student
Groups - OCCA
BBQ:
GPSOUTH
It's possible to get us an hour of time within this period by dropping some of the talks, which I feel could be useful in terms of having everyone in one information gather session, but it's probably too restricting to confine the whole project to this small time window.
If we chose to create another time session to run some form of organised event it would be possible to arrange a mail out with futher instructions.
Events and Locations and Other Stuff:
Some key things that the students need to do that might be useful to include in some fashion:
Library Tours - Loretta Atkinsen - Half an hour
Computer session + Newsgroups
Common Locations such as GPSOUTH and other buildings. There aren't any "common" areas at present, maybe that could be looked at.
Icebreaking, meet new people games.
Identifiers, staff need to be able to indentify students participating in our project.
Encourage knowledge of diversity. (Overseas, Colleges).
Encourage students to ASK questions.
There is an orientation guide telling them what to attend, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. Maybe we should look into this area of things.
I think it would be worthwhile, as Steven suggested, to set up some form of online registration for the event that would enable us to collect information such as mobile phone numbers as well as provide a common point of information about the project.
Other ToDo:
Interview with front office staff re: common questions from new students.
Talk to Mel re:scheduling
Possibly talk to UQ re:scheduling
